As the first woman-led responsible fashion brand in Madagascar, Made For A Woman redefines the global luxury landscape thanks to a radical commitment to transparency, authenticity, and inclusive storytelling.
Since 2019, we have created and implemented a sustainable, scalable and innovative business model rooted in social entrepreneurship: our mission is to uplift and empower people from vulnerable and marginalized backgrounds, as we preserve and celebrate the priceless artistic legacy of weaving raphia – a staple of Malagasy culture and daily life – and create responsible artisanal couture.
Our multicultural team, led by founder and CEO Eileen Akbaraly, is made up of creative women and men from all over the world, including Madagascar – Eileen’s own home country – Japan, Italy, France, Colombia, and more.
Most of our employees are from Madagascar: here, we employ over 350 artisans, most of whom are women from vulnerable backgrounds, such as single mothers, survivors of gender-based violence and domestic abuse, sex workers, and people with disabilities.
Each of them contributes their individual story, talents and inspiration to our unique creations.
Located in the heart of Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, the atelier is a safe space for hundreds of women and men – a home where they are free to express themselves, learn, and grow as individuals and as a community.
Here, the artisans find dignity and empowerment thanks to living wages, fair working conditions, and a comprehensive social strategy including free access to healthcare, education opportunities, social services, personal and professional development, and even a childcare area welcoming over 50 children daily.
