About us

About us

Our Mission

Fashion and nature, ethics and aesthetics, luxury and sustainability.

Made For A Woman’s journey starts in Madagascar, where, since 2019, we have created and implemented a sustainable, scalable,
and innovative business model based on gender equality, to prove that fashion can be a driver for positive change.

As the first women-led and women-centered fashion brand in Madagascar, we aim at disrupting the paradigms of the fashion industry
through our commitment to radical transparency, authenticity, and genuine storytelling, leading by example and weaving a better, fairer, and more sustainable future.

At Made For A Woman, we empower and support local artisans who use raphia, a locally sourced natural fiber, to create unique bags, hats, accessories, and ready-to-wear pieces.

By supporting our project, you are choosing a more sustainable and ethical way to shop. Join us on our journey towards a more conscious and compassionate fashion industry.

“We are more than just a brand: our mission is to change
the world together, one creation at a time.”

The Team

Our international team, led by Founder and CEO Eileen Akbaraly, is made up of creative women from all over the world, from Madagascar – where Eileen was raised – to Italy, Japan, Spain, France, and more.

Most of our employees are from Madagascar: here, we employ over 350 artisans, 92% of which are women. Our goal is to improve their resilience and quality of life thanks to a socially and environmentally sustainable strategy based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and Women Empowerment Principles, as well as on the World Fair Trade Organization’s Guiding Principles.

Our artisans are always at the forefront of our project, where they can make their voices heard by the customers and the industry alike, ensuring that there are no barriers between the final point of our production chain and the people working “behind the scenes”.

The Atelier

Our atelier is located in the heart of Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, one of the world’s poorest countries. Here, 81% of people live with less than 2 dollars a day, especially women and children, who are often subject to violence and discrimination.

Providing support and a way out of poverty for people from marginalized backgrounds is a core element of our mission, which aims at improving their resilience and quality of life through fair and equitable salaries, a safe place to work, and a way to express themselves, grow, and be empowered.

Over the years, the atelier has become a safe space for hundreds of women and men who are now free to express themselves, learn, and grow as individuals and as a community.

Here, they find dignity and empowerment through fair working conditions, as well as many benefits that make up our social strategy, including free access to healthcare, education opportunities, empowerment projects, zero discrimination policies and even a childcare area.
