SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Our sustainable social strategy is based on a thorough assessment of the needs of the artisans employed in our atelier, and focuses on four main pillars, all based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals: health and well-being, artisan empowerment, zero discrimination and childhood protection.

“MADE FOR A WOMAN MADE ME INDEPENDENT AND GAVE ME CONFIDENCE IN MYSELF. I LOVE LEARNING EVERY DAY, AND THAT IS WHAT WE’RE ALL ABOUT HERE.”
ZOARY, ARTISAN

Our socially responsible projects are dedicated mostly to women from marginalized backgrounds, such as gender-based and domestic violence survivors, single mothers, sex workers, people with disabilities and more, as well as to their families and children, benefiting over 1000 people every year.

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

We guarantee artisans access to free healthcare and promote their well-being by providing safe health spaces within the atelier, including a medical cabinet, breastfeeding area, clean water, and sanitized toilets.

We also develop awareness campaigns on key topics such as sexual and reproductive health, feminine hygiene, and menstrual health.

We consider mental health a priority, with individual and group therapy sessions, a psychologist, and a social worker available to provide day-to-day support, as well as art therapy, including music and dance sessions.

EMPOWERMENT

Our empowerment actions focus on finance, education, and leadership skills.

All employees can access personal finance education sessions, open their own savings accounts, learn fundamental IT skills, and take literacy and French classes, as well as follow specific courses on artisanal techniques and skills for their professional development.

We also promote women’s committees and representation within the company, working to provide managerial and leadership skills to help artisans build a better career for themselves.

ZERO DISCRIMINATION

We implement a zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment and discrimination, as well as having a crisis unit available to provide support to women in at-risk situations in and out of the atelier.

Our team is able to support women by providing them with access to social services and legal advice whenever needed.

To prevent violence against women, we develop awareness campaigns on gender equality and human rights as well as working to increase male engagement at a local level.

CHILDHOOD PROTECTION

We offer every child over five the opportunity to be enrolled in school by providing logistic and financial support if needed.

For the younger ones, we have a childcare area that welcomes over 50 children daily, thanks to a qualified teacher and 3 assistants.

Here, we promote healthy daily routines and develop awareness campaigns dedicated to hygiene and education for mothers and children, while also offering literacy and French classes.

PARTNERSHIPS

Building partnerships with local and international organizations is key to achieving our goals sustainably.

We currently work with several local NGOs, with the Malagasy Ministries of Health, Environment, Women Empowerment and the Population on a wide range of projects to support and empower women and advance gender equality.

In 2023, we signed the Women’s Empowerment Principles developed by UN Women, offering guidance on how to advance gender equality and women empowerment in the workplace, marketplace, and communities.

We have also joined the NEST network, a nonprofit supporting the responsible growth and creative engagement of artisans, to further enhance and scale our growth and impact.

91 women are currently involved in our partnerships ; our goal is to increase that total to 350 over the next 2 years.

“IT IS AN HONOR TO BE ABLE TO WORK WITH MADE FOR A WOMAN, BECAUSE WE SHARE THE SAME GOALS. WE WOULD LOVE TO CONTINUE THIS COLLABORATION AND INVOLVE MORE WOMEN IN THE FUTURE.”
