Respecting our environment is a key element in every step of our process, from the raw materials we pick all the way to production and sales.

Ethical fashion means acknowledging that there are human beings behind the clothes that we wear. All our products are 100% handmade, therefore our production capacity is limited. One of our simplest bags can take up to 3 days to finish, while our most complicated pieces can take 2 - 3 weeks. We know this isn’t the easy way, but we care more about quality and having a positive impact on people and the environment than turning a quick profit.

Raw Material

All Made For A Woman products are made using Raphia, a versatile material extracted from a specific kind of palm that only grows close to water. This natural material is ready to be artfully shaped using a variety of different techniques such as crochet, macramé and embroidery. We only dye our products only using certified AZO-free or natural pigments.

Upcycling/
Recycling

Any raphia scraps are upcycled in the most useful way possible, such as filling our home decor pieces, like pillows and poufs. We have also designed one-of-a-kind products using raphia scraps, giving new life to material that would otherwise go to waste. Every bag is lined with second-hand fabric sourced from local markets, further reducing our carbon footprint and allowing us to create truly unique products.

Packaging

Our products come in a reusable Raban bag, made of a natural fiber using traditional Malagasy looms. We use zero plastic to package and ship our products, and the products themselves are fully compostable in 10-13 years once the lining and metal hardware are removed. Our tags are made of a special Malagasy paper called Antaimoro, made from tree bark pulp with pressed flowers, which is also fully compostable or recyclable. Each tag features a portrait of the artisan who made your bag, with a QR code leading you to a short video about their story.
